Welcome to TreeZenTrade. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal data when you use our services. By accessing or using TreeZenTrade, you agree to the practices described below.

2. Overview

TreeZenTrade is a Zen meditation timer app for Android. Its purpose is to exchange collected attention for the planting of trees.

The app works without a user account and without registration. Data is stored locally on your device. To determine your share of the total trees planted, your cumulative focus time is transmitted to a web service. This information is not processed beyond determining the mentioned tree share.

3. What data is processed?

3.1 Locally stored session data

Each completed meditation session is saved in a local database (Room/SQLite) on your device. The following information is recorded:

  • startedAt – Start time of the session (Unix timestamp)
  • durationMinutes – Set meditation duration in minutes
  • success – Whether the session was completed successfully

This data is used to display your personal statistics within the app. The sum of successful durationMinutes is transmitted to a web service to determine your share of the total trees planted.

You can delete this data at any time by uninstalling the app.

3.2 Advertising – Google AdMob

The app displays banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob (Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA).

In the course of serving ads, Google may collect and process the following data:

  • Device advertising ID (Android Advertising ID)
  • IP address (potentially anonymized)
  • Device information (OS version, screen size, language)
  • Approximate location (derived from IP address)
  • Interactions with advertisements

Data transfer to the USA is based on EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).

4. Legal basis for processing

  • Local session data: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract / core app functionality)
  • AdMob advertising data: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) or legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR)

5. Disclosure to third parties

Your data is only shared with third parties in the context of the AdMob integration described in Section 3.2. No further disclosure takes place.

6. Retention periods

  • Session data: Stored locally on your device until you uninstall the app or manually clear the app data.
  • AdMob data: Subject to Google's deletion schedules as described in their privacy policy.

7. Your rights

As a data subject under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Access (Art. 15 GDPR): Right to obtain information about the data processed about you
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): Right to have inaccurate data corrected
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Right to have your data deleted
  • Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR): Right to restrict processing
  • Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): Right to receive your data in a commonly used format
  • Objection (Art. 21 GDPR): Right to object to processing
  • Withdrawal (Art. 7(3) GDPR): Right to withdraw consent at any time

Since locally stored session data cannot be directly attributed to any individual and resides exclusively on your device, you can remove it by clearing the app data (Settings → Apps → TreeZenTrade → Storage → Clear data) or by uninstalling the app.

For requests regarding AdMob data, please contact Google directly.

Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In Germany, this is the data protection authority of the relevant federal state.

8. Children

This app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at the e-mail address above.

9. Data security

Locally stored session data is protected by the standard security mechanisms of the Android operating system (app sandbox). Other apps have no access to this data.

10. Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated as needed, for example when new app features are introduced or legal requirements change. The current version is always available via the app's Play Store listing. The date of the last update is indicated above.
